The bailout vote, the financial crisis, the scepticism toward the election and the two main candidates... makes me feel it could be a great opportunity for a third party to gain credibility and be a real presence 4 years from now. I have the impression millions of americans can not believe they gonna actually pay for the irresponsabilities of bankers, that the federal government, with help coming from the two parties, has acted like a socialist state, using public money for private matters, messing with the basic laws of the market. Don't you think the road is getting clearer for a powerful libertarian, back to the pioneer, funding fathers all american values candidature? I don't know if it's good news or not (even if i'm a libertarian, american libertarians tends to be too protectionist, america first, populist IMO ) but it could change a lot in future american politics... What do you think, am i wrong or do you think that may happens?

I wish it were so. I just don't see any way this country is going to leave the two party system. It just seems like it will never happen. The two parties thing, I don't know how to word it, but it seems like people just support the one party out of hate for the other party.. not because they actually like their own political party. And so both end up with large amount of people picking a side (that they don't believe in).

Best I see is the morphing that both parties undergo every 40 years or so. Both the republican and democratic party changed drastically in the 30's, then in the 60's and now I think we're headed for another re-definition of what it means to be a republican and what it means to be a democrat.

I have no clue why but this country just loves splitting itself into two sides. It's the stupidest thing ever.

But if anyone could do it, Ron Paul could.

Libertarian? People love motherment. Imagine a libertarian getting traction on this board alone:
-He's going to kill X programs
-He's planning on restoring freedoms that I'm opposed to in the name of freedom
-He wants to slash taxes (oh the horror)

I can go on... the horror of libs would be at a fearful pitch, and the neo-cons would be in epilepsy over foreign policy.

Oliver, like I said in my post, there will never be a third party, and it's mostly out of fear/hate for the other party than anything.

Thanks StupidNation for serving as an example wink.gif

What exactly was he wrong about there?

He's dead on. Every single stinking citizen of this nation would be up in arms when their favorite handout got the axe.

The spoiled children in this country would freak out if Motherment wasn't there to hand them candy.
