i'm not sure i want anyone "teaching" my children "about patriotism"....

Don't you want children to be proud about their own country?

Not at all! I wish they'll hate the concepts of nations, countries and borders the way their dad do!

Very noble thought. I say the entire populations of Morocco and Algeria pack up and move to the middle of Basque country.

Not a bad idea, that 'd open some eyes among some guys around here...

(btw if your patriotism is just a way to differenciate yourself from third world populations i'm happy i'm not a patriot)

Of course, in France they would form a white flag.

There was a big difference between the way the English and French would colonize. When the French colonized, the new area would in all practicality be treated like it was in France proper. Quite different from the way the English would treat their colonial properties.

Don't know what's the link between what you say and the posts above but it's true.
That's the old "equality" obsession of all french governments since Louis XIVth. Parisianism BS IMO.

My point was you hate the notion of countries and borders unless it is all one France. And the way the French colonized, that was surely their goal, no?

Right on brother, it seems that in this country we don't like to let our children create their own opinions about the positives and negatives of being an American, we tend to force patriotism (though a better word is nationalism) down their throats.

In grade school, kids learn all about Columbus but not the genocide he committed. They learn all about World War II but not internment camps. They learn all about Manifest Destiny and American expansion, but not the Trail of Tears.

I know this Patriotic Eagle picture is innocent enough and all, but it also seems to me to have a subversive side. Show kids enough Pro-American symbology and propaganda and they'll buy into the whole "America is the best country in the world" ideaology without ever questioning it.

PC = Patriotic Correctness.

And it has only gotten worse after 911.

Now, don't get me wrong I am all for it in such organizations like scouting and what not... I am all for it when people want to show it.

But, being patriotic to me also means asking questions, getting to the truth, etc... No matter how it hurts or may offend.

Patriotism is freedom of voice... Not a lemming movement.
