What a cool night to be a Yankees fan.

Hopefully even those of you who hate the Yanks can at least appreciate the history of the franchise and the Stadium. We had our swan song tonight. The rest of the season is yours.

Im sicken to death about it.

Yank fan or not, its tearing down a piece of American history. The greatest ball players of all time walked that field. Its a shame...

I only caught the tail end of hte pre game ceramonies with all the former Yanks, that looked pretty cool. I'm bummed I didn't get out to a game this season.

Of course, the game itself was hard to watch because of the usual ESPN nonsense. A scroll throughout the entire game with the history of Yankee Stadium.........................1923 - Jack Dempsey KOs Joe Schmo............2003 - Aaron Boone hits series winning HR...............1982 - Pope John Paul I celebrates mass...............1995-2007 - Joe Torre picks his nose on national TV................. rolleyes.gif . On the first pitch of the game they used the CF camera and that crap was actually covering the pitcher.

There are very few stadiums in baseball or sports that can have times like these (Fenway, Wrigley to name 2) but last night was a special night indeed. As a kid growing up in New Jersey, I spent many of summer days and nights off of 161st street attending Yankees games through the early 80's till now. Part of me is sad by this: The new Yankee Stadium will be modern no doubt, but less seats means higher prices...it was great even as early as 10-12 years ago go be able to just go get a ticket, and everytime I walked into the Stadium I got goose bumps.

Farewell Yankee Stadium and thanks for the memories that I will never forget

The ticket price issue has been badly underreported -- unless you read Mushnik's column in the Post. I was thinking about this last night during the role call; how many of those guys are going to be able to afford the astronomical prices in the new Yankee Stadium?

The Mets are doing the same thing. I have a friend whose had season tix at Shea for years but they are doubling the price for his new (and worse) seating at Citifield, so he canceled them.

That is the shame about both Shea and Yankee Stadium going away: Less seats for 2 very popular teams that play in ametro area of almost 20 million people. Gone will be the days of a normal fan owning season tickets by himself. That is the shame in all of this: And how about helping the South Bronx with another stadium? Nah, that is a great area, it is in fine shape rolleyes.gif

The ceremony was pretty cool, but honestly, I'm glad they're getting a new stadium. If my favorite team didn't play there, I'd hate Yankee Stadium. I've seen some awesome games there and had some great memories, but I've never thought much of the facility. The only stadiums that I've thought were worse were Shea Stadium (also getting an upgrade) and Olympic Stadium in Montreal ph34r.gif.

I'm not a Yank fan, nor am I even a baseball fan. But I did watch some of the game just because it's the end of an era
