I don't know if it's the "best" thing but it was certainly bound to happen. I think this was the worst case scenario coming into the season, but one that Cashman was prepared to deal with. Over the next 2 years, the Yanks will have a ton of cash coming off the books and a bunch of young pitchers ready for the bigs. This will allow them to keep around those that are going to succeed and have the chips to make deals- no one knows who will become what, at this point. If they spend their money
wisely, ie not a seven year deal for Teixiera or something like that, it will set them up to be very successful in the next 5-7 years. It sucks now, but at least they kept it interesting until September. I'm still watching (well, not right now because they are on a West Coast roadtrip and the games don't start until 10) and still hoping they can close the Stadium out with a W.
