Full Version: The baseball board has lost some steam lately

Losman's Beard
is it the parity?
Is it the fact that we are all tired of Yankees/Red Sox?
In a strange way, is the fact the Red Sox are now superior to the Yankees and now the Sox 'mystique of the curse is over and now they are just like the Yankees in many ways' taken a sting out of the trash talk?
I thought we all wanted the Tampas of the world to win, and now they are, and this forum is dead as a doornail...
Any thoughts?

Well, let's see....

1) Yankee fans are all in hiding (and praying that Torre doesn't lead a AAA quality Dodger team to the playoffs)
2) Even Red Sox fans know better than to gloat when they are in 2d place and barely clinging to the WC.
3) Met fans can't bear to watch, much less write about the 'Flushing Bills'.
4) Cards fans are waiting till they make up 2-3 more games until they start calling notice to that late season charge.
5) SnR left word with his rally monkey to wake him up when his Halos waltz into the Series
6) LSI was beaten into submission and hasn't been back since
7) Ramius can't show his face cause he's going to finish before LSI in fantasy. Speaking of....there's still a little horse race to be settled in the fantasy league...could go down to the wire. thumbsup.gif

and

8) Yes Scott, we still want this board. wink.gif

That's their fault!! For me they'll always be the TB D-Rays (something like the TwoBillsDrive guys!)

No Devil No Bay!

KD had a good post about why the baseball board has slowed down. Theres not much going on, and not a ton of cubs/brewers fans on here. Also, RuntheDamnBall has been AWOL since april, and he's usually got a lot to say.

But the biggest reasons for the baseball board slowdown are below:

1. football
2. football
3. football
4. football
and
5. football

You owe the Rays Baseball Foundation (Tampa's charity) $1 for referring to them by their former name.

I find it hard to stay interested now that the Tribe is all but eliminated. The only thing that has kept any semblance of my attention is whether Cliff Lee gets his 20th win on Monday, and whether Grady has a shot at 40-40 (he's at 31 HR's and 35 SB's right now.)

What he said. laugh.gif

BTW, there could be news by the end of this week on the future of the Indians-Buffalo relationship, now that the Bisons' season is ending.

I think it's almost a certainty that the Indians are transferring their triple A affiliation to Columbus. The Bisons will probably be Toronto's top farm team next year.

Yeah, and that's a shame. The Buffalo-Cleveland affiliation has been very good for both sides. I can see why Cleveland wants to switch to Columbus - expanding the fan base in-state and expanding STO's footprint - but I feel bad for Buffalo, especially if they're going to be Toronto's AAA team. That seems a step down from Cleveland as the parent club...

I do wonder about that change, though - TO has been affiliated with Syracuse for 30 years. Wonder what makes either of them want to change...

I think the biggest reason the board has died down is because of interleague play.

Inter-league play hasn't been entertaining in 15 years. I hate it but I love to diss it on message boards.

Number 6... definitely number 6. (by the way, do you all think he's "completely given up on them" again this year?) laugh.gif

I think it's been kind of blah year for baseball. The Marlins are the feel-good story this season, but only the most avid fans can name a player on that team. After the all-star game hoopla in NYC and Yankee Stadium, the air kinda left.

Hopefully something exciting will happen in the stretch run to bring back sizzle back to this steak.

Its been a bit tougher to keep my interest in my A's, seeing how the Angels clinched the AL west prior to the all-star break.

I'm with you, brother... to the bitter end! Although I wish they'd stop trotting Ponson and American Idle Pavano out there....

Damn right. All the way to the end. And agree...shut Ponson and Pavano down and give the kids some experience.
Bmwolf21
For as much as Pavano has stolen from the Yanks they should start him every third day, pitch him out of the pen, have him throw BP, sell tickets and popcorn, clean the stadium after the game ends, and maybe take a few shifts selling tickets and luxury boxes at the new Yankee Stadium.

This Yankee fan may just start watching the playoffs to root for Pinella and the Cubs.

I agree with that. I used to live right near Wrigley a year ago and semi follow them now. I've also got a bunch of friends that are Cubs fans, so it woud be good to see them freak out. Plus, they've got one of my favorite players ever, Alfonso Soriano- even if he disappears in the playoffs.

Hey, I take offence to that, Toronto is not a step down from Clevland! Looks like the Bisons now get the Mets, Now thats a step down!

I think the real reason the board has died down a bit is because A. Football has started, and there is no direct link to the Baseball board from the front screen in the pull down menu part

Sure it is.

Syracuse under Toronto's affiliation - one division title in 30 years, no league championships, no championship appearances.

Buffalo had 5 championship appearances, three league titles and 9 playoff appearances in 14 years as Cleveland's affiliate (1995-2008.)
