Have not looked at this yet, just on the internet. Reviews are good.... have a big box 99 Mitsubishi ready to upgrade without spending a ton. Just not sure if the plasma's still put out alot of heat. $1199.00

my 42" panasonic puts out a ton of heat.

your price is good for a 50" samsung. but it is good because the resolution is only 720p. if you can get around that (which many would consider not a huge deal) then you got yourself a good find.

thats my 2 cents anyways

I bet Poojer would like it.

Thanks... the 720 is not a big deal to me, but the heat is. Might consider a DLP- not as sleek, but a good picture. The LCD in that size gets pricey.

Just bought the 52 inch version that is one model level up from that. The samsung picture is amazing compared to my panasonic plasma. I highly recommend it and the price is great for what you are getting.

Is heat a factor?

Not really.

I just bought a 42" Panasonic Plasma and it's amazing.

My only concern with this TV is that it's only 720p. For my 42" plasma, that's not a problem because it's "small." However, a 50" is starting to get into the "big" category. Check out this link:

http://www.carltonbale.com/2006/11/1080p-does-matter/

With this size, if you're sitting around 7.5 feet away, you'll see a better picture with 1080p. That's not to say the picture will look bad if you only get 720p, just that it could be better.

With that said, the projector in my theater is "only" 720p and projects a 100" picture. I sit about 11' away and it still looks awesome. I know it can look better, but it's still very good. smile.gif

I think this is my TV. I have it and I love it.

1080p or nothing. Like night and day. Pay the extra if you can its well worth it, except when you are watching porn, not so good on the close ups, so i have been told.

Read the link I posted. There may be absolutely no visual difference between 1080 and 720, depending on how far away you sit from the screen (and your eyes as well - the chart assumes 20/20 vision).

I agree, buy for the future.

Have to agree with you here Fez, I have 720 and don't think I can notice a difference in 1080. At least not in the set up I have at my house and my buddy has at his. 720 seems to affordable right now to pass up.

Buy for the future...? blink.gif The number rule in electronics purchasing is to NOT buy for the future - because in the future the same product will be better, faster, cheaper.

I suppose, if you think the future may involve you sitting closer to your screen... But otherwise, what's the point? If you're sitting far enough away that 1080 makes no difference, why waste the money?

It all depends on how the room is setup.

Why do you say that?
