I see they were bought out by Whirlpool. We have a Whirlpool clothes washer and dryer which perform well. 2 years ago, I bought a Whirlpool dehumidifier which is useless. I called for warranty service - what a joke.

That article is a year old. Will be good to see if Whirlpool's claim of improving service have come true or not.

A few years ago, there was a website created called Maytagsucks.com when many, many people were having problems with their model that promised to wash 16 pairs(!) of jeans in one load with half the water. I don't know what the engineering was, but I think there was a reserve of water that stayed in the machine. One of my cousins had one and had to get the basin cleaned out by the Maytag repairman... the first and second guys tried and threw up, the third said, "No way." And judging from the commentary that was posted at that website (which was taken down probably by legal threat) their customer service left a lot to be desired. IIRC, he asked for a credit to just purchase a different model and all they would do was another of the same model (meaning, the same problem).

I don't know if this is representative of Maytag as a whole or just this particular model that didn't get properly vetted in the product testing phase. But that CS is pretty stevestojany.

We've bought quite a few Frigidaire products --- two fridges, two gas ranges, a dehumidifier (got it at Lowe's), and an AC unit this year. All of them are excellent, and with all the days we've had this summer where the air's been close, let me tell you, that dehumidifier works like a champ in the (not quite, but getting there) finished basement.
