Rematch Week!!
A few teams got some payback this time 'round, as Tempe upset Colorado and Edmonton took out Toronto to even up their season series. But the big one happened down in San Antonio....
In the Alamodome, the defending Gilchrist Conference champions, the Texas Steers, truly turned the tables on their division rivals, the Louisiana Rage. After failing to convert on a 2 point attempt that would've tied the score late in the 4th quarter back in week 1, the Steers watched Louisiana come up short on their own late 4th quarter 2 point conversion attempt which gave the Steers the win. Man, are these two teams tough! I get the feeling that there's a strong chance we'll see these two teams meet up once more this season.
Pull out the brooms! Season sweeps abound as Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Seattle, Springfield, Indianapolis, Erie Slayers and Assassins, Pittsburgh, and New Orleans swept their opponents this year. Some were close battles (Oakland came thisclose to getting their first win over 'Nawlins) while others were a bit lopsided (Springfield put the smackdown on Chi-town).
Excellent performances on offense by: the brothers Manning (Eli in Colorado, Peyton in 'Nawlins), Willie Parker, Torry Holt, and Ocho Cinco.
Defensively, Will Smith, Sean Jones, and Marcus Trufant were standouts.
Tim Dwight is coming off a second straight impressive week special teams-wise. Will Blackmon was solid as well.
Injury wise, Philly gets hit w/ another huge loss to the offense, as WR Chris Chambers will miss 9 weeks w/ a knee injury. The line in Vegas (no, not that line) will suffer a bit w/ OT Jonathan Ogden out for 4 weeks due to a concussion. Green Bay will lose OT Todd Steussie for half the season w/ a knee injury while Brooklyn and Louisiana also will have guys out for half a season: Brooklyn S Renaldo Hill w/ a hand injury and Louisiana TE Aaron Walker w/ a knee injury.
Matchups to watch for next week: New Orleans @ Erie Slayers and Texas @ Springfield.
New Orleans is looking strong @ 2-1 and will hope for a strong performance out of Peyton Manning once again as they take on the undefeated Slayers. This one pits New Orleans' 2nd ranked defense against the Slayers' 3rd ranked offense.
Meanwhile, Texas is riding high after taking down Louisiana, but they face not only the team ranked 2nd in the power rankings, but a team who has the league's top ranked offense and top ranked defense through week 3 in the undefeated Isotopes.
