So we're off!
Looks like the Gilchrist Conference is going to be LOADED this season! Louisiana and the defending conference champ Texas had an instant classic of a game, won on a late sack by Mike Vrabel. The Steers look more than ready to defend their title, but I still think Louisiana is going to be the team to beat in the Gilchrist.
The other team I expected to compete w/ Louisiana for that title is the Erie Slayers. Well, the Ottawa Renegades had something to say 'bout that, as they used an impressive defense to keep the Slayers' offensive firepower in check and controlled the game. A bit of a shocker, this one was.
Speaking of shockers, I never would've expected Philly to lose to Cleveland! Not that the Steamers don't have some talent, but I believe Philly will be not only the most improved team this year, but could end up playing in this year's Super Bowl. Marshawn Lynch was neutralized by the Steamer run defense, which I certainly didn't expect.
Another surpise in the Kelly Conference was Indy's loss to Green Bay. Like Philly, I'm predicting a big season for the Hoosier Daddy?, but they'd better find a way to stop the pass, as Brett Favre and Deion Branch filleted their defense.
As for the defending champion Assassins? Well, we faced a VASTLY improved Maryland team w/ a ton of offensive firepower and did a great job of keeping them from becoming any kind of factor. Not bad. I'd like to see Tomlinson run a bit harder, but then again, w/ Jon Kitna having the game of his life, we didn't need him to go off.
Pretty interesting results for week 1. I'll post the individual/team stats later. For the preseason games, I'm not going to worry 'bout posting injuries, as they'll be wiped out after these 2 preseason games.
Here's the week 2 schedule:
Indianapolis (0-1) @ Las Vegas (1-0)
Green Bay (1-0) @ New Orleans (1-0)
Cleveland (1-0) @ Springfield (1-0)
Chicago (0-1) @ Pittsburgh (1-0)
Philadelphia (1-0) @ Maryland (0-1)
Edmonton (1-0) @ Seattle (0-1)
Texas (1-0) @ West Virginia (1-0)
Tempe (0-1) @ Oakland (0-1)
Toronto (0-1) @ Cincinnati (0-1)
Louisiana (0-1) @ Colorado (1-0)
Brooklyn (0-1) @ Ottawa (1-0)
Erie Assassins (1-0) @ Erie Slayers (0-1)

Indianapolis entered the preseason with hopes to improve it's offense and make an easy a transition from the 3-4 to a 4-3 defense. It appears like the idea to let last year's backup QB David Garrard lead the offense was a good one. Offseason trade addition Justin Fargas seems to be a good fit with the team's new 3 wide style approach as well. The defense's 4th quarter collapse on the other hand was a major disappointment. As a result DC Rickey Jackson will spend more time with the D-line this week. New comer DE Keneche Udezi, traded for in the offseason for former starting QB Eli Manning, is in the coach's doghouse for not one but two critical penalties late in the game. Also it appears the loss of RFA CB Nathan Vasher might have been greater then the front office anticipated. Yet it's still preseason and hopefully with some tweaking things will turn around for the Daddy? defense.

Of course, it doesn't help when my starting quarterback only threw 7 passes

my starting RB only had 2 carries. I'm hoping that its because of "preseason."

I get to play Louisiana weeks 1 and 3, with Colorado in the middle. Ouch.

That should be fixed for next week.

Everyone has the same setup, I believe. Whoever your opponent is for week 1, that'll be your opponent for week 3 also.
