As per Rotoworld:

Schilling's season, possibly career over

Curt Schilling told WEEI that he'll have surgery on his right shoulder on Monday, and that his season - and possibly career - is over.

The 41-year-old wasn't sure what type of surgery he'd be undergoing, and said that would be figured out on Monday. He left open the possibility that he'd be able to pitch again next season, but said "there's a decent chance that I have thrown my last pitch, forever." He had been rehabbing shoulder and biceps injuries, but hit a setback while throwing before last Friday's game. Jun. 20 - 9:43 am et

To put it mildly, I'm not a fan. Hopefully he wont get into broadcasting.

He should run for Teddy's seat when he croaks.

I can't stand that fugger... I never like to see an injury end anyone's career, but I sure as shat won't miss that arrogant, self-promoting, grandstanding SOB.

You can almost guaran-damn-tee someone is going to put this guy in a booth, so he can pontificate on his beliefs and "insights" into the game. rolleyes.gif

I'll give you that he was a helluva pitcher and quite a gamer, but he didn't mind spouting his beliefs on anything and everything even if no one asked what he thought. Maybe he'll changes his blog title from "pitches" to "bitches" since he's going to the next and newest "crusty, cantankerous, curmudgeon former ball player."

You mean his career wasn't over already? Who knew?

I think a guy like Ozzie Guillen is great. Charles Barkley has ALWAYS been one of my favorites. Schilling, on the other hand, has a personality which leads him to believe that his thoughts on ANY subject are correct and need to be heard by everyone.

I agree in general, I love candor from professional athletes because most are so conditioned to stick to the company line. But Schilling is a pompous ass. Having an opinion is fantastic, but it should also come with the understanding that other people may carry the opposite opinion. Schilling fails to grasp that concept.

It was a good run. He will be missed.

There is a difference between having a personality and being an a-hole.

At least in my book. blink.gif

So we will consider you undecided?

A definite undecided... unsure.gif

I honestly expected to see him in the ESPN booth last night at some point injecting his thoughts on this, that, and the other. Of course Fox has the game tonight, so I'm sure they'll find a way to get him or that a-hole Eric Byrnes into the broadcast. Maybe this year Zelasko can step all of another broadcasting legend and cut him off mid sentence like she did to Ernie Harwell a couple years ago.
