How dynamic would an "El Series" be?
I was talking to a co-worker and we agreed... I think you wouldn't see anything else like it... The Bay Area: Ho-hum, both teams transplants. I-70, snore... Royals and Cards? Subway? They are all a melding there, that would be like Cubs v. Cubs, get real.
Now Sox-Cubs... Only thing I could describe it as would be Yanks-BoSox matchup with a 10 mile buffer zone and no CT and RI to diffuse the carnage!
Would it be something! Class warfare at its finest (with some crossover, very little though)...
Not trying to jinx it... How sweet it would be with the Sox whooping the Cubs!
After just living in Chicago for the past year, I saw firsthand some crazy animosity- I had no idea one side even really gave a crap about the other. I would love to see it, and I think it would draw in a lot of attention around the country, especially considering the Cubs' WS cold streak. I don't think the White Sox have the pitching, though, to go through the Angels, but if they don't have to face LAA come September, they could do it- I think they'll handle their division pretty easily. The Cubs will make the playoffs for sure, and I do think they are the best team in the NL, but I'm having trouble convincing myself they'll make it to the WS. If they can pick up Gil Meche or CC Sabathia, I'd feel better about it (especially with CC), but I'm going to reserve that call. Needless to say, it's actually a possibility for the first time that I can remember, and I'd definitely be pumped. I did live in Wrigleyville, however, so go Cubs!
