QUOTE
Curt Schilling is all done after four innings in what will go down as his worst Opening Day start. He allowed five runs, eight hits, two walks in what was the worst Opening Day start of his career.

I can't think of a more fitting person for this to happen to.

There are different types of 40+ year-old pitchers. There is the Roger Clemens/Nolan Ryan freak of nature type. And there is the David Wells "I'm rich and working out is hard" type. I think Schilling is more Wells than Clemens- he showed up out of shape and did not look strong while throwing 89 pitches in four innings.

I have mentioned before that an athlete being candid with the media is refreshing, but Schilling crosses a line and just comes off as pompous and very self-involved. I hope he gets rocked in every single start.

Second up:

Carl Pavano still sucks.

...but it doesn't matter when the Yankees all-star lineup scores 9 runs.

It's going to be a long year. Maybe Theo will actually wake up when his team is below .500 after the all-star break. sad.gif

inkman, I think the Sox have a better rotation. The Yanks get the edge in the bullpen. They're both flawed and Toronto might be set to take advantage. Suggestion to Al East teams.......WIN YOUR DIVISION........no guarantees after that.

If Beckett pitches like last year, dice-k flops and Shill is as horrible as he was in his first start then the Sox ace is Tim Wakefield. Big trouble.

All the Yankees pitchers (outside of Wang and Rivera) could have ERA's over 6 and they could still win the division.

I also like the B-Jays (just wanted to say that) this year. I think their pitching is at least as good as Boston and their line up is way better, IMHO.

I think I really over valued the Red Sox offseason aquisitions. Dice-K could be the real deal but Lugo and Drew still have much to prove, at least to this Red Sox fan.

The bottom of the Red Sox order; Varitek, Crisp and Pedrioa could be really bad. Posada, Cano and Phillip/Meinkaweizc(sp) would probably be Boston's 5, 6 & 7.

It's one game in and I'm looking forward to next year which will probably be equally as bad or worse. Ugh!
