And your son understood him?
Can i rent your son to interpret the post game interviews for me? I'll just have him sit next to my tv and have him translate.
LOL! Of course he understood him. He's five.
My son I mean. Not Willis.
It was actually very cool. Last July my husband jokingly asked me if I wanted to go to Bills Training Camp for my birthday. I think he was a little taken aback by my "HELL YEAH!" reply, but we packed the lil ones, my son and daughter (6), up and went up that day. The kids did all the stuff over in the kids section and they watched practice with us. At the end of practice they were pressed right up against the railing to try and get some autographs. Donte' Whitner stopped and Duke Preston. One of them asked me what time it was (I say it was Donte', my husband insists it was Duke, but pfftt.. I know I'm right..LOL) because they had to get in to watch "The Contender".
We figured we'd lost Willis in the crowd. Willis is my son's favorite player. He has a huge poster of him on his wall and was wearing his "21" jersey to Camp. We looked up and Willis was running over from the opposite side of the field. This was probably a good 15-20 minutes after practice had ended and he was over there signing autographs. I figured at least my son would get to see him because he had to walk right by where we were standing to get to the locker room. He stopped up the line from us to sign a few more autographs and it was pretty obvious he was done by the time he started heading our way. Again I figured, "Well.. at least he'll get to SEE him up close.." but I couldn't help myself, LOL, I started calling out his name.
When he turned to look at me, he stopped and saw my son standing there and he walked over. He said, "Hey buddy.. did you enjoy practice?" My son's eyes got as big as saucers. Then Willis took out his Sharpie and signed my son's jersey. Then he turned and signed my daughter's autograph book. As he was doing that I said to my son, "That's him.. that's Willis.. you've got his poster on your wall.." and Willis turned and gave my son the biggest smile and a wink. My son was absolutely radiating. After that Willis gave them a wave and headed off into the locker room.
I know Willis has said some dumb stuff and I know he's been less than stellar on the field, but I gotta say the Willis I will always think of was the one that, after an exhausting practice and another 20 or more minutes spent with the fans, found two minutes on his way to the locker room to make a tremendous memory for a 5 year old fan.
That night on the way out of Camp, I found out what it must be like to walk a kangaroo on a leash because my son was absolutely pinging off the walls. He had to stop and tell EVERYONE that Willis signed his shirt. He told security guards. He told the vendors. He told guys coming out of the bathroom.. LOL!
We'll definitely be going back again this year. Probably twice.
