I think Big Papi may be out of the picture. Jeter definitely has a legit chance. He has been a rock in an unstable lineup this season. Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau deserve a look, as well.

My pick- Jermaine Dye for Chicago. The guy has been mashing all year.

I'd have to see what happens in the last few weeks. If the Twins take the wild card or division I would have to consider one of them, maybe even Santana. huh.gif

Jeter--I am a Yankee homer, but I truly believe he deserves it this year. He is clutch, plays stellar defense, and is leading the Yanks despite the injuries to some of their studs.

Papi does deserve some consideration though as well.

IMHO, it's down to Jeter and Dye.

A bit off topic, but Frank Thomas has to be the comeback player of the year!

I agree with both. I think Frank will be the comeback player of the year. I think when it comes down to it, Jeter will win the MVP unless the White Sox can somehow get into the playoffs, then I would vote for Dye.

I think it's a "two horse race" between Dye and Jeter. I pick Jeter to win because he's been "Mr. Clutch" this year. He's done everything he has been needed to do from the batter's box and in the field. If the Yanks have needed a timely hit, he's been the one to do it. Whether it's to drive in a couple of runs, get on base, advance the runners, or steal a base, he's been at the top of his game this year. And we all know that he plays a Gold Glove calibur SS year in and year out. I think it's his year. The Yankee Captain for MVP!!! biggrin.gif

I'm not ruling out Santana - especially if the Twins win the division.

Even if they only hit the WC, it's a consideration. He has swept in and taken control of the Cy Young race, that's for sure.

Me either, but my pick is Derek Jeter. And as a big Yankee-hater, it pains me to say it.

If the Tribe were in contention, I'd say Travis Hafner. But, I think there's a big East Coast writer's bias in picking the winner of the award.
