What's the magic number?

Or according to the ESPN, the tragic number? ohmy.gif

So which one of you did I see with the 4' X 4' NY emblem on their SUV this weekend? It was a homemade job that really should have been left to professionals. I guess I should hand it to him, he is very enthusiastic, albeit, somewhat child-like.

Like the Mets homer announcers are any better. Sterling is a guy that yes, goes over the top at times, and yes, he can be a homer no doubt, but if you really listen to him as a baseball fan instead of a Bitter Mets fan, you will see the Sterling will give other teams and players credit when credit is due.

Mets fans cannot talk about the Yankees $.....Mets fans think they are right there with the little guys in baseball, like KC, Florida etc....news flash: When baseball fans think about teams spending a lot of $, granted the Yankee$ are front and center, but the Met$ are right there too. The Mets are part of the problem now.

And always remember, the Mets lost in 5 games in the World Series to a team who won the World Series with the 2nd fewest wins in the history of baseball, the 87 win 2000 Yankees! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

And another thing, Mets are having a GREAT season, why do Mets fans here seem more concerned about the Yankees, you guys have an awesome team this year. It speaks volumes.
The Poojer
it is nice that they spend 200 mil a year to put a winner on the field, while other owners spend 70-90 mil on the team and the rest on themselves, shows how much they want to win! Until they set a salary cap, i want to see George outspend the rest of the league by leaps and bounds trying to put a winner on the field! BTW why is it that yankee bashers always throw the past in our face? considering the pasts of some of the other teams.....

Right, George is just the picture of charity. rolleyes.gif

The reason Steinbrenner succeeds is not because he spends money, but because he can afford to retain good baseball people. You guys should realize how lucky you are to have Cashman and Torre. It's probably the best front-office/management combo in the game. You need look no further than Peter Angelos, who has spent tons of cash on a consistently underachieving team because his front office (and his own decisions) suck. If George was running the ship entirely and spending in the same way, you and I both know that you Yanks fans would be in for a world of disappointment. The 1980s all over again.

I'm sure most owners are, to some extent. You have that kind of jack, even outside the thrill of success and excess, and the thrill of victory, there's got to be just so much money that you have to put some of it toward some good for others.

I'm just saying if anyone is going to present the case that the guy has not dedicated his life to making money they're just flat out wrong. And to say that other owners are holding onto theirs (sure, some are -- but the teams spending $70-80MM?) while George just "puts it all into the team"? Not quite.

The thing with me is I hold the same ire for guys like Jeffrey Loria / Huizenga in FLA who have a different business philosophy that I feel is equally detrimental to the game, and then find success. It all pisses me off. It's within the rules, but it makes the game less about the game -- to me. I like the NFL's salary cap model.

Nothing funnier than Yankee fans trying to deflect criticize over payroll.

First, please link to any post ever, where a Met fan insinuated that the Mets were one of the 'little teams' in baseball. The Mets are with the group of a dozen teams in the high $80MMs to low $100MMs. Only the Red Sox by 20% and the Yankees by 100% exceed the core group of bigger teams.

So now, how exactly are the Mets 'right there' with the Yankees in payroll? You could fund the entire payroll of KC, Florida & Tampa Bay with the difference between the Yanks and Mets. In fact, the difference between the Yankees and the #2 Red Sox is bigger than the team payroll for more than half the teams in MLB!!!
