That we can stick a fork in the Sux? THey sure as hell seem well done to me.

And with the Angels way back in the west, I see the Yanks two biggest competitors in the post season fading away. Could this be the year?

Papi's got an irregular heartbeat

Too bad--if he misses a considerable amount of time, there is no way they come back.

To think of the Sox as a competitor is a bit of a stretch. They can't compete with NY. Their pitching might be the worst in the majors. Their are banged up all over the diamond and whatever fight they had in them is long gone.

I think at least 4 other teams should warrant the Yanks concern. Of all the teams that look to make the post-season, NY may have the worst pitching and that is what wins in the playofffs.

BTW, way to call your shot about a month too late. dry.gif

I seriously have to question one's intelligence if you are telling me that anything I said in this thread constitutes as crying.

Here's what would contsitute as crying:

The Yankees should win the division, the have the biggest payroll.

The Red Sox lost their heart and sole when Varitek went down.

The Red Sox can't cover up their mistakes like the Yankees can by throwwing more $$$ at theri problems.

If the Red Sox had 3/5 of their pitching rotation healthy, the division might look a little different.

Nothing I post resembles any of this crap, so take your regurgitated responses to some other message board, with the rest of bandwagon central.

Anabolic steroids:side effects
QUOTE
There is evidence that the use of anabolic steroids does elicit structural changes in the heart and that the ischemic tolerance is decreased after steroid use. Echocardiographic studies in bodybuilders, using anabolic steroids, reported a mild hypertrophy of the left ventricle, with a decreased diastolic relaxation, resulting in a decreased diastolic filling. Some investigators have associated cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, and cerebro-vascular accidents with abuse of anabolic steroids.

More side effects
QUOTE
Hypertension:
High blood pressure is also a chance when taking steroids. Most athletes would not know if they had high blood pressure so it is suggested to get tests regularly. High blood pressure can lead to many more serious diseases.

Cardiovascular Disease:
Studies have shown that steroid use is a risk factor for heart disease. This is because steroids affect the cholesterol levels. Over a period of time the cholesterol builds up and clogs the arteries.

Palpitations:
Heart palpitations have been reported by a number of athletes on steroids. These may indicate an excited or elevated level of the central nervous system.

Heart morphology changes in steroid users
QUOTE
Ventricular septal thickness index was slightly greater in athletes using AS, compared to the other two groups (p less than 0.05), while left ventricle mass, the end-diastolic volume indexes and isovolumetric relaxation time, (a parameter of left ventricle diastolic function) were significantly increased (p less than 0.001) as well as the fat free mass (FFM), a marker of skeletal muscle mass. The non-users showed no differences in echocardiographic parameters, compared to sedentary controls.

Maybe Sheff and the Giambino need to get their tickers checked? unsure.gif

Money is money. I won't deny the Red Sox and Mets have it, and to an extent the Jays were big spenders this offseason.

But what other team in the majors can absorb a hit like Carl Pavano and just not even look back while adding more payroll? I mean, that's $10 MM a year! I'm talking 1/7 of the Toronto payroll, Toronto a team that was not shy about adding some this year. That's crazy money for a guy who has done jack this year and last, a 4-6 record and an ERA of almost 5.00 to show for his 20 mil. The Yanks can look at that, and say, "so what?" Most teams can't.

The Yanks have the resources to keep reloading, and it's really the way it is. Let's not pretend they don't have a leg up on the competition, though.

The really crazy thing is that they are paying Cano and Wang peanuts. And those guys have been instrumental in their success. Without them, they are not winning this year (not without adding yet more payroll). I'm sure that'll change soon. Considering that Sheff, Pavano and Farnsworth are making $24MM between them, and have contributed next to nothing, I guess things even out.
