Now that I've got your attention. angel.gif

So far, the much ballyhooed Ryan deal is paying off so far for the Jays. (ATTN AJ Burnett: the jury is out, but you're pissing us off.) Now if they could only get a couple more middle relievers to hand him more opportunities. Jason Frasor, I've got a bullet with your name on it.

Ryan's clip:
28.2 IP, 14 H, 2 R, 35 K, 6 BB, 1-0 WL, 15 SV, 1 BS, WHIP 0.70, 0.63 ERA

Can't complain about those numbers from your closer. The East is nasty when it comes to the shutdown men from the top 3. Glad it's still a competition.

Does Josh Towers have a nuke with his name on it? laugh.gif

Why is he on the team?

I thought he was sent down....maybe the Chiefs fans here can go see him pitch.

Towers is pitching for the Chiefs in 'Cuse. He finally won one down there last week but he does not have it this year, that is for damn sure.

Here's a good one from an ESPN chat:
QUOTE
Richard (Toronto, ON): Hey Jason, what do you think of the blue jays chances of making the playoffs? Without A.J. Burnett and a depeleted starting rotation, they have managed to stay in contention.

Jayson Stark: They're the best team nobody ever talks about. I know that. Not only have they not had Burnett, but the guy they plugged in his place -- Josh Towers -- went 1-8.Which means they've gone 32-16 when all their OTHER starters have pitched. I can't predict what Burnett will give them when he comes back. But if he's even close to the guy who ripped off those seven wins in a row for Florida in the second half last year, it wouldn't shock me one bit if Toronto "stole" a playoff spot while everybody was blabbing about the Yankees, Red Sox and the AL Central teams.

I see Ted Lilly, and not Casey Janssen, to the bullpen when Burnett comes back. the East is going to be fun this year.

IT only took them 9 losses to figure that out. huh.gif

That's what I thought. Towers is not pitching with confidence right now. In my perfect world, when Burnett arrives on the 22nd, they send Lilly to the bullpen, which should strengthen us for long relief and (hopefully) help him figure out his inconsistencies. The other starters are pitching better, but Lilly can't be any more on and off than the bozos they've got in the pen right now (who incidentally blew a start from Halladay last night, something they cannot afford to have happen).

In the meantime, hopefully Towers finds his groove in AAA and could be another spot-starter/long reliever late in the season in case Janssen starts slumping or there's another injury.

Towers v. Sosa tonight.

The battles of the one winners. Towers is 1-8, Sosa 1-9.

Hopefully this is where the winning streak begins.

Haha, I agree with that, though I'm sure we might disagree on whom we'd like to see start the winning. tongue.gif
RuntheDamnBall
And of course, neither of them get the win. Wasn't the worst or best either of them has pitched, though Hillenbrand and Hill did their part to try and help the Jays lose. Toronto really needed that win.

Any of y'all, Mets, Jays, or other fans, going up to Toronto this weekend? I'm really looking forward to seeing my two favorites play.

I am considering it...but I'd have to wear my Braves gear and cheer for the Jays.

being that the Braves are now 14.5 games out of first if I can't cheer for them I can cheer against the Mets, right.

And can I add what a TOOL Keith Hernandez is.

What's wrong with Keith?? tongue.gif

He's no worse than any other team's homer color man and he's pretty funny since he apparently will say whatever pops into his head.

I definitely want to. I love the Jays and the Mets are awesome this year.

I saw on the Jays website that kids 14 and under get a free Toronto Blue Jays Mr. Potato Head on Sunday (first 5,000) so I might grab my nephews for that one.

I'm going on Saturday. Halladay vs. El Duque. Looking forward to it! Roy should be motivated after a sub-par outing against the raging Marlins.

"Well, Gary, since most sportswriters have never played baseball before they really don't know what they are talking about."

"You, see here Gary, this is the perfect grip on a circle change up. The thumb and the pointer finger make a circle and uhhh....that's how you grip it. I wish Ron was here because he could go on further about the circle change but I can tell you that the grip is perfect."

The guy makes me laugh at least once a broadcast.

I still can't believe what he said about the girl for the Pads. I was watching that game and it was just classic. He doesn't mince words, that's for sure.

So, for entertainment purposes, he's great.

laugh.gif laugh.gif Yup, I heard that during yesterday's game too. Quality stuff.

"Hey, I'm Keith Hernandez!"

Boy gant, I've never liked the Braves, but I feel for you guys right now. It's tough to watch a proud franchise struggle like this.

We've got Burnett back tonight on TV. No hard feelings, but I'm hoping for a good outing and the sweep! I'll cross my fingers for a good Braves run after this one. tongue.gif

3rd worst record in the NL....

Sosa got moved back to the bullpen because it's so poor.

It's a sorry start to the season. Hopefully they can put something together but it's not looking that way.

I'm starting to wonder if Chipper's best days are behind him.
