lets get going on a fresh start with the new coaching staf .
lets get our name down and tell how much fat we want to get rid of .
tell us what your plan is .
you will be asked to check in each week and let people know how you are doing .
mead107 is weighing in next TUESDAY morning . i will tell you now that my goal is to get under 200 lbs right now i am up around 350. exact weight will be posted tue.
Just Jack
Okay, I'm in. I want to lose about 35-40 pounds by Tailgate VII this September. My plan is Atkins and exercise. I've done it before, so motivation is the only thing lacking.
JoeSixPack
I've BEEN doing it, since two weeks before Thanksgiving. I passed the thirty pound mark this week, 31 pounds off. I intend to lose at least 30 pounds more.
Spun
My goals are more modest. I am at about 193 and I want to get down to around 180-185 or at least lose some of the donut leftovers and firm up. I got to get myself running. I do the Stairmaster and the Lifecycle but getting some running in ensures a more vigorous workout. I have to cut back on the burritos, subs, macaroni and cheese and the mochas.

I had a good workout this morning. I stretched for about twenty minutes, hit the heavy bag for three rounds of five minutes (one minute in between each), jumped rope for about five minutes and then finished with forty-five minutes on the Lifecycle.

Starting with something you can do and feel good about is key to continuing. For example, if one can do fifteen pushups, then do fifteen pushups and feel good about it. Then gradually increase the number of repetitions and sets.

I took a diet and exercise class a few years ago and with one of the assignments we had to keep a weekly diary of our workouts. I photocopied the blank diary pages and have continued to use them to this day. It helps keep me going. The important part is my being honest with what I write down. If I take a day off or a week(s) off I record that. I can live with falling off my plan. What I won't put up with is my lying to myself about what I did and didn't do. The truth is I bought these very nice running shoes in December and I have used them once. Not good!

Good luck everybody!

mead i don't mean this in an insulting fashion, i sincerely hope that you stick to your goal because that is a rather unhealthy weight. don't give up dude.

quick changes in your diet will cause you to lose fat quickly because it is a shock to your body. at one point, i did the same thing, i just cut down my calories and i lost weight fat, but then it became more difficult.

try working on gaining some muscle mass as muscle burns more calories than fat.

my goal, my weight fluctuates a lot from 220 to 230 but my body fat is 27%, i wanna drop it to under 20%.

sometimes it's not just having a goal, it's just continually being active
i know plenty of skinny people who stay home and don't exercise, because they look healthy doesn't mean they are. On average people should exercise 30 minutes a day.

Good - Weight Watchers is a program with a proven record of success.

Give soy burgers a try. I eat them not because of weight problems, but cholesterol/triglycerides. I buy "Boca" Original brand, and put them on a whole-wheat bun. A good amount of fiber, which I need. And while they are not a hamburger dripping with juice, they are not bad.

It is hard to meet that stated amount of daily fiber, btw.

Don't forget your snacks. A candy bar a couple of hours before a meal has been touted as a way to not stuff yourself come mealtime. I have found that to be true - the sugar in a Snickers bar keeps you going, and I found myself eating less and better come dinner time.

A pile of 2% cottage cheese with canned natural juice, non-sugared peaches or pineapple is satisfying and filling. Dole sells a can of mixed tropical fruit in natural juice for about a buck thirty.

Keep rye bread in the house instead of white. You have to squeeze and carefully check the use-by dates to see if it's not dried out or won't dry out soon and become food for the birds. I wrap the loaf in a plastic store bag to keep it fresher.

The Smart Balance brand of microwave popcorn - the green box - is a good evening tv snack. Lo-cal, fiber, lo-salt, lo-fat, and tastes surprisingly good.

Sorry for the lecture. blush.gif

i would do so well in the day eating 4-5 small meals with high amounts of protein, low sugar and low carbs
then around 1-2 am i'd get hungry and eat 3 bowls of cereal sad.gif
if it wasn't for the midnight munchies i'd seriously be in good shape

Try sleeping earlier.

Seriously.

I eat a lot of fiber and protein during the day, that will keep you fuller.

well it is more because of the habit
it's like a couple of years now that i regularly eat before going to bed because i have classes in the afternoon and i work the evenings
last night i didn't touch anything before going to bed, it was tough but hopefully i could fight it and do it regularly.

Good going. Progress continues.

Do you read the nutrition panel on food boxes and cans? It is a good idea - but you have to see what the "serving size" is. Some labels look good until you read that the whole box serves six. biggrin.gif

I have found that reading them and comparing different brands, helps.

Wife and me rented and watched "Supersize Me', that documentary where the guy ate nothing but McDonald's for 30 days straight, about 5,000 calories a day.

Give it a shot - it's really very funny, and interesting. It's not a screaming P.O.S. like Fahrenheit 911.

The guy gains 25 lb, and barfs in the parking lot, gets cranky etc. - his blood chemistry goes to h*ll.

The added featurette - The Smoking Fry - is a hoot.

Fact I learned: One of those 32 oz. supersize sodas contain 24 teaspoons of sugar. tongue.gif

mead107
2 more lbs this week 347 ( yes , we do look at nutrition panel )take triscuits, serving size 6crackers if you get the fat free you can have 7.

Good going. You have lost some pounds every week.

Try the original shredded wheat cereal. You can eat all you want - 24% of your fiber with 2 pieces. Makes you very regular, too, and is supposed to cut down cholesterol and triglycerides.

For sitting around watching TV, my wife and me tend to pouring out a bowl each, of Cheerios. We munch on 'em - seems to satisfy the need. Not that I wouldn't prefer a bowl of cashews or pork rinds, though! tongue.gif

you should try eating lots of lean meat and vegetables. you can keep yourself full as long as you eat stuff like that. especially in the morning, try and maximize your protein content. Eating less isn't always necessarily the best thing, as if you do not sustain the amount of protein you need, your muscles get broken down instead of the fat and muscles burn more calories than fat. And weight is not the sole indicator of progress. As long as you remain consistent though, you will reach your goal.

depends on you
do you excercise ? if you are generally not active, you should check your body mass index and see if you're in the acceptable ranges. if you are active, then you should check your body fat percentage.

Wasn't that an interesting movie? I thought the part where they looked at school lunches was shocking. The school for "troubled" kids that had behavior improve when they started serving healthy lunches was very enlightening. I've lost nearly 17 pounds in Ukraine from walking and having no junk food, gained about 9 back since June, but am down to 237 this morning. Going to aim for 217 by class reunions in June.

I took a 12 oz. can of pop out of the icebox - I don't drink much - a can or two per month. It contained 47 grams of sugar. So I weighed that amount of sugar on my kitchen scale in a tared double shot glass.

It's volume was roughly 1 3/4 shots. Yeesch... tongue.gif

You will get it done. Your knowing what adds weight and what takes it off is the big thing. That awareness changes food shopping habits and keeps the restuarant visits at a minimum.

I find that looking at what other folks have in their shopping carts in a grocery store helps. I feel a secret pleasure when the person in front of me in the checkout line fills the belt with Ho-Ho's, frozen pizzas, sugar cereals, tubes of ground beef, chips, soda pop and so forth. I have become a food snob. biggrin.gif Makes my skim milk, shredded wheat, soy burgers, unsalted crackers, frozen vegtables, oranges, lo-salt bacon, 2% cottage cheese, lo-fat microwave popcorn, baked snack crackers etc. seem more palatable.

I've learned that with better food choices, one can eat all day long but lose weight. And the occasional good steak or ribs becomes a remarkable pleasure.
