Congrats! Keep plugging away. While it won't happen overnight you are making progress smile.gif

Time to throw my hat in to the ring.

Starting weight: 212lbs (96.4kg for us metric folks tongue.gif)

Not so much concerned with an ideal weight as I am with losing the inches around my waist (currently at a 36ich waist in my jeans which is being pushed to the limit).

but if I had to guess, I would figure between:

185lbs - 195lbs (84.1kg - 88.6kg)
mead107
up 2 damm pounds 347 . walking 2 miles this afternoon
Joe In Macungie
Hangign steady at 218 as of this week.

not bad, but I'd like to at least lose another 18.

Got to start reducing that daily calorie intake. Pays to keep a diary and write down what's eaten every day. After a while, what't hi-cal and what's filing and what's not starts to settle in one's mind. That, along with learning about this and that's nutrition values, knocked 35 lb off me.

I still write it down - helps me plan. For example, me and my wife have a big ham dinner planned for Easter Sunday, so I know that for the next few days, we will have something like canned baked beans, green beans, cottage cheese, and canned natural juice fruit for supper so we can pig out.

Give a food diary a try - it really makes one aware, and progress happens.

They have the free online account. You can either choose what tey already have entered for food, or add your own, track exercise, etc.

A hand-entered small memo pad is more immediate. The idea is to have one's food consumption ready at hand. Punching in data after the fact is not comparable, since comsumption needs to be acted upon in the next 4 or so hours. biggrin.gif

Data entry takes time, and can be a redundancy.

It is tough. I started out the semester trying to lose 20 pounds and i ended up gaining 25 sad.gif I have promised myself that as soon as my exams are over (next week) i would start doing kick boxing and other activities to make my calorie burning be higher than my calorie intake because i'm too weak willed to stick to good food.

there are nights when i get home and i make myself 2-3 nutella sandwiches

sigh
Joe In Macungie
I'm STILL hovering at 218.

But then again, I haven't exactly been religious about the food. Exercise I'm doing no matter what.

Ya but when you do resistance training you should not use weight as an indicator of your progress. You might actually be putting on weight but it would be muscle. If you have the option, do the resistance training for a month and then find out how much your body fat percentage is.

All is not lost! biggrin.gif

If you're keeping up the walking, and gradually reducing calories, you are losing fat and replacing it with muscle. And muscle is heavier than fat, so the weight loss starts off slowly.

Wow..How tall are you. Hang in there. Suddenly i don't feel so hugh hearing you weigh that much. I work on a golf course 7 days a week so i just need to lower my calorie intake. Last year lost 25 pounds in the summer so I'm confident i can do it again.

If you were 6.3 or 6.4 I'd say you just need to tone down. 5.10 is tough to carry weight. I'm 5 9 1/2. About 200, but i should be down to 170 -175. Dads diabetic so in my interest I should lose a few since it may be in the genes for me.. Best of luck to you bud..

Did you re-analyze your methods? Do you have breakfast in the morning?

A great way to lose weight is to have a good portion of protein in the morning. Whether it be purely egg white, or a lean steak or fish, having protein the morning seems to turn on your metabolism.

More than one personal trainer has told me this.

This is what I do:

Breakfast (weekday): 3 scrambled eggs, two slices of turkey bacon and some fruit.
Lunch: Three vegetables, doesn't matter what

And then whatever's for dinner is for dinner. I've been hovering at 218, perhaps this is the weight my body was meant to be.

The thing is. In my case, I'm only 24 so I don't have a cholesterol problem so I could eat a lot of meat in the morning and it won't be as bad.

If you have trouble getting down to the weight you want, I suggest you try doing speed sets. It's what I do at my kickboxing classes.

Do 20 crunches, 20 leg raises, 20 pushups, then run up and down your stairs over and over till you're burnt. Take a 2 minute break and do it again till you're sweating heavily. Then try and throw in some other excercises as well. Do some bike etc. It's very difficult to lower your body weight once you got rid of the excess weight but a lot of hard work and you will get there.

If you have the time, take up an activity. Really helps a lot.

Well I did step up my routine a bit. Since I am not working full time atm, I've been bike riding about 2 hours a day plus I've been going to my kickboxing classes 2-3 times a week. I've somewhat cut down on the junk food but I'd probably be a lot lighter if I did.

Seriously, it's all in the head. If you enjoy exercising, you will get into shape.

It will, when you read that list back to yourself. Makes one feel guilty, and say for today, I'll have a supper, of canned baked beans, green beans, and canned fruit with natural juice. It works.

It's been successful for me so far. I read my notes, and say to myself, time for the nutritous lo-cal stuff today.

If your wife isn't also dieting, you are sunk. No man can lose weight watching a spouse eating macaroni and cheese and steak.

Thank God i'm not married angel.gif biggrin.gif

Seriously dieting is tough. Seriously, I'd rather run 30 laps a day than not have my favorite meal. One personal trainer once told me, it's 30% training, 70% nutrition which is inherently why i'm !@#$ed. With the amount of training I do, if I'd eat properly, I'd seriously be at about 200 pounds.

But I'm still happy with the result, I no longer have the man boobs and look much slimmer.

The difficult thing, sticking to it.

I totally believe the 70-30 thing. Working out is important, but having one cheeseburger instead of two is more important. And never, never, never eat french fries! tongue.gif

Good luck with it

Last year I went from 213 (highest ever) to 172. Felt great.

Since my sister-in-laws wedding in June I have put back on 14 pounds. Feel like crappola. Tired all of the time, etc. etc.

SO, I am very happy that the message board had this section. Almost like a TBD.com Biggest Loser. Pretty sweet. Goal for me now is to obviously get back down 172, then pass that and get into the 160's. I haven't been in that region since high school.

I am planning on going about it the way I did it the last time. Which, like any diet was tough in the beginning.

• Run at least 16-20 miles per week. (burning about 560 calories per)
• Eat a light breakfast (usually eggs and toast)
• Eat a light lunch (nothing heavy because that is when I run)
• Eat normal dinner, just watch the portion sizes.

• No snacks unless they something like Carrots and Light Blue Cheese (come on good replacement for the wings for a while)
• No Drinking for a while. My plan was to hold off on that until I lost 8 pounds.

In my profession I have designed many books on weight-loss. Seems like all of them said the same thing at one point or another. Portion size is the biggest thing to watch. Two easiest ways to cut that down were in the beginning eat on smaller plates. Less room for food to go, most likely you won't get up and get more. Second (works awesome for lunches), use Pita Pockets. Cut them in half. Fill it up. What doesn't fit in, you can label in your mind as being to much.

Well, I am back on it like many people here. Good luck to everyone... look forward to talking to you all.

Why don't you just kill me and end my fun entirely tongue.gif

To be honest, at this point I just want to have a good cardio vascular workout. It seems, when I try to cut down on junk food, i end up eating more. If i remain consistent in my workouts, I will eventually learn to cut down. It's all about habits. I don't eat before going to bed since I work very early in the morning and when I get home, 10pm and I'm exhausted. I'm trying slowly to break the bad habits.

Oh tell me about it. I have the hardest time in the beginning each time... everything I wrote I did. It was just really hard getting to that point. Took a couple of weeks, easy.
