down 13lbs since Jan 2. lost 7 the 1st week then, 6 more the subsequent 2. I've been eating soooo healthy (tons of fruits, veggies and all high fiber snacks - pretty much a regular dinner, just smaller portions), drinking tons of water, but most importanly hitting the gym 5 times per week. So far i have done only cardio and abs, but next week will hit the weights. how about everyone else? oh by the way, started out at 248lbs - would like to get to between 200 and 210

Started at 260. Down to 232. Actually started the second week of November. Goal is about 175-185. We'll see when I get closer to 200.

Fewer calories each day with more protein and fiber. Two 20-minute walks a day and yoga/Pilates classes four days a week.

Don't concentrate on weight, concentrate on Body fat index at it is a much more accurate determinant of if you are burning body fat. Especially if you start hitting the weights, your weight will generally stabilize or increase but it will not mean that you are gaining weight.

the important thing is to stay healthy

I did Pilates at home using this DVD. Watched it once before trying them to see what was involved, and thought "this is so easy". Once I actually started, I had to stop the DVD about 8 minutes in and rest. Alot more difficult to do than it looks when you are just starting out.

ah i looked it up, looks very difficult, seemingly seems like it requires a lot of concentration. Not really for me.

I have been thinking of doing Muay Thai Boxing classes. I have a friend who is doing it and he says the workouts are sick. The movie Ong Bak inspired me biggrin.gif

Not that difficult, just intense because you'll be using muscles that you forgot you have.

Nice job bro. I finished last year 20 lbs lighter than what I started it at. Gotta get back into the exercise thing now.

Welol, bodybuilding movements aren't real-life movements. For example, how many times do you use a bicep curl motion?

Not too often. In yoga, however, you're building strength in the core muscles of the lower back and abs. This in turn, helps you with everyday activities, such as picking stuff up off the floor.

oh
well in bodybuilding you do a lot of lower back exercises and abdominal exercises as well as leg exercises that help for a lot of everyday activities. Plus it helps you look good with your shirt off tongue.gif

Down almost 4 dress sizes. Who would have thought - I knew I'd let myself go but not that bad. People who haven't seen me since September or October are quite surprised. I am walking 4.5 miles a day (1 in the morning with the dog and the rest on the treadmill at 4.4 mph) then I have a pro gym ultra which is great aerobic/resistance training. I feel wonderful, have lots of energy. I am still not "dieting", just nibbling and not eating fats or candy - holding the line on starches too. Once in awhile I splurge and then I feel like crap physically, my sysrtem can't take it, so I don't feel deprived. Food just doesn't seem to be important any more. Glory be.

Amen.

This past weekend, i did something I have never done since I left the military:

I walked into an Abercrombie and Fitch store. And had I wanted to, I'd ahve been able to buy jeans at a store designed for TEENAGERS. At age 32, that's a good feeling.

I've lost 6" off my waistline, and ended up buying pants at American Eagle.

Never activate your core, then?

Point being, arm strength is only as good as your core strength.

Yeah, well, I was hoping to find a pair of jeans. Unfortunately, they seem to believe that selling jeasns pre-stained and full of holes is worth $40.

Good job.

always helps to be over 6 foot. You're suitable waist size now for that height, unless you want to tone or lose more pounds.

You're lucky man. I've been breaking my ass twice a week doing a lot more cardio. I'm really having trouble controlling what i eat, since i am partially on vacation, it's boring so I go out ot eat a lot.

My goal is to be like 195-200 pounds because i'll still be big but i won't have the belly.

Train using bodyweight. Do an arseload of pushups or Yoga or something. Cardio alone won't cut it.

Don't eat out if possible. But if you do, no apps, no dessert, and when your entre comes, have them bring a to-go box so you can immediately put half in it.

That's good - better than before. I've found that buying the sugarless hard candies - peppermint, butterscotch, help out - use'em during times between meals - saliva flows, stomach and brain both agree that they are being fed. They don't realize that it's like 5 calories per piece, so they are happy and aren't demanding other stuff.

This is the best time of year to lose weight...

Why?

1) the weather is nice, no excuse not to be outside and exercising.

2) Fresh fruit, especially berries. I've been eating a cup or more of blueberries a day lately I love em.

3)Chicks in bikinis. Don'tcha wanna impress em?

As of tomorrow I should be at the 30 lbs lost mark since 1/1/2005. I slowly drifted up during the first half of this year and put back 14 of the 25 I had lost. But that's gone plus 5 more since I lost my job on 7/8.

19 lbs in 5 weeks - not bad...

And oh yeah - I accepted a new job yesterday.

I actually eat more at work than I do at home - just to take a break from work I guess. Gotta find something different.
JoeSixPack
I've maintained all summer, which is good consiedring I've eaten like crap.

I start back to meetings in September for one last push.

I'm not looking at the weight anymore.

I just go with clothes. At the beginning of summer, half of the clothes I wasn't able to fit into them. Now I can.

I just have to chill out on the pasta and soft drinks.

Cardio doesn't burn fat. When you're training your heart, the pace it's running at is too high for fat burning. Just FYI.

I know. The heart rate for fat burning is lower. The thing is, I do a lot of muscle building (although not with weights but with what I do at boxing), which should speed up my metabolism.

That is why I bike ride a few hours a week at a decent pace.

I am trying to bring up my overall fitness level.

But even though, I agree that cardio vascular designed workouts are not necessarily good for fat burning, the amount of sweating and calorie usage as well as a decrease in consumption of food will bring my body fat percentage down, although less than if I'd stick strictly to a heart rate for fat burning.
