What's not to like about Damon? He gives maximum effort, he's a great leadoff hitter, and now he's got Jeter behind him. This is a big loss for the Red Sox.

You mean Matt Damon from "Good Will Hunting" and "Rounders"??

Man, the Yankees will hire anybody.

I agree, while I hated Damon in Boston, I welcome him to NY. His defense is a little suspect and his arm isn't much better than Bernies but he's fast, an excellent leadoff hitter and is truly one of the hardest working guys in baseball. This is a good move for NY and a huge loss for Boston.... Plus when you cut his hair and shave his beard he'll look human again.. laugh.gif devil.gif

The concerns are:

1) Noodle arm

2) Puts up his best numbers in contract years

3) Will be 36 at end of contract

All of that said, as a Yankee fan, I do like the move. He's by far the best offensive option available at the position, and he'll cover a lot more ground in center than anyone the Yanks had last year, even if he won't scare anyone with his arm.

And it's always nice to stick it to the Sawx. devil.gif

As a Yankee fan, I was hoping they would try to get Juan Pierre out of Florida.
He has a career .305 average, 267 stolen bases and a .355 on-base percentage.

This solidifies the Yankees lineup beyond any other move they could have made.

Now you have a left handed leadoff hitter who gets on, one of the best opposite field hitter in the game to the two hole, then mix and match however Mr. Torre feels after that. It gives you the ability to drop the bunt with Jeter up if Damon gets on late and close rather than having whoever was hitting in the two hole swing for the fences.

Can't believe people can complain about his D when you've had Bernie Williams out there for the last few years.

And it forces the Sox to move someone, more than likely Marte for someone like a Coco Crisp.

Fantastic move by the Yanks.

It gives them some versatility, sure. It also makes them one of the weakest teams up the middle, defensively. Plus, a lot of what Damon brings the Yankees already have in Jeter. I understand there werent many other options out there, but this doesnt seem like a great move. It seems they are paying top dollar for a Cadillac when they already had a Lincoln in the garage.
