how's everyone doing with their diets, i put on a little weight this year because of school and work cutting into workout times so im now 6'0 feet 225. the good thing is i just got a personal trainer to help me get back into shape, hopefully it works.

Diet? What's that? wink.gif

Truth is, with traveling for work, and seeing what some of the guys I work with will order for dinner is making it hard for me to make the right food choices. I'd say, about 1/2 of the time I have a meal on the road, I'm making bad choices. When I'm home it's easier, since there are no "treats" in the house.

the thing is i've been told that i need to eat more since i have a metabolism that burns 2200 per day with out any excercise. if i keep a steady excercise and eat a lot especially stuff loaded with protein i'll get thinner and more in shape. don't have that big of an appetite though :S

Down almost 3 dress sizes since October. I always do well over the holidays, there's some sort of peverse pleasure in self-denial during a time when everyone else seems to eat to excess....ha ha.

I've just given up on diets, I eat oatmeal for breakfast, fruit mid morning and afternoon, cottage cheese or yogurt for lunch and for dinner pretty much what I want, only no butter or deep fried stuff. That and 4 miles walking per day ... 1 mile with the dog in the morning and the rest on the treadmill in the evening.

I just ate about 4 Christmas cookies, but I learned that denial ALL the time leads to binging...so I won't cheat again for awhile. It's taking awhile longer to take the weight off than I'd like, but it took years to put it on and I haven't really tried wholeheartedly.

Best advice: cut down, eat "simpler" foods, use olive oil rather than butter, and don't get on the scale. Go by how you feel and how your clothes fit. It seems to start slow but next thing you know all your clothes are fallling off. I'm looking forward to a NYC shopping spree next month!

Well, currently I'm down to 235 from an all-time-high of 260.

My secret? I cut out ALL refined carbs from my diet. If it ain't whole grain, I don't eat it.
I also added more protein and monounsaturated fats to my diet.

As for training, I do Yoga three days a week, calisthenics every morning and try to make 10,000 steps a day.

Sounds like a decent diet. Are you getting enough calcium?

Have that good dinner! And while vegetable proteins are good, they greatly lack in one of the essential amino acids - lysine. Moreover, the iron in meat is easier for the body to absorb.

great to hear

25 pounds less makes a big difference. I once went from 230 to 200 which for the first time since i think i was 1 years old i was actually considered skinny lol

I haven't had time to work out now and I eat a lot before going to bed. Problem is i get high every night so when i get home i usually make my self food. Plus my mom is sure that eating pasta every night with saucigge and minced meat is a healthy diet. Damn Italians biggrin.gif

After the holidays I will be hitting the gym 3 times a week with my new program and I just need to cut out so much sugar from my diet and i'll probably go back down to 210 from my now 230 pounds.

I'm serious man...

In the past, I've hit the weights and ran hard. I learned some valuable lessons from doing that....Foremost being that I can't stick to that kind of exercise.

What I HAVE found is that walking is the key.

IMO if you walk 40 minutes a day at a brisk pace and sprinkle in other forms of exercise a few times a week, you WILL lose weight, especially if you eat healthily every day.

My goal now is to stick with this through the end. I survived the first two months, November and December, down 25 pounds. This is a time period where the typical American packs on 10 pounds. So i guess that puts me 35 pounds ahead of the average. Not bad!

Keep off the sugar...it's what makes you fat.

Good point - the soy milk has some and I take calcium supplements. Fortunately for me I don't care much for red meat so I don't miss it. I eat a lot of fish though.

I feel great - I haven't had this much energy for 10 years! And I'm really not hungry which is nice. I think each of us has to find their own way and most importantly BE PATIENT. My downfall has always been targeting some date or event to lose weight, not meeting an unrealistic goal and then giving up. Once I stopped doing that I was surprised at how (relatively) quickly and easily the weight comes off DESPITE the fact that I am over 40, which is supposed to be when it gets really hard to lose.

Again, if I can do it anyone can!

Great words of advice. You CAN lose a lot of weight realistically if youg ive yourself enough time. You can lose 104 pounds SAFELY in a year's time. All it is is 2 pounds a week, which can be accomplished by trimming 500 calories from your diet and adding 500 calories of exercise per day.

Obviously you have to enjoy what you're doing to do it consistently. My favorite pass time is working out as I find it is one of the most relaxing things i could do, just time constraints with school and work.

Good luck keeping to your plan, i'm sure you'll stick to it.
