Blow it out your a$$, gantrules (and you too, Darin).

Seriously.....Of course I like this deal. But Im not all too crazy about the fantasy-baseball style aquisition of hired guns like this. And God knows the Mets have gone hog-wild in November before. And how many times has that worked out for them?

Exactly................................

Shaping up to be a killer team on paper, though.

Sorry dude, didn't see your thread, I deleted mine.

I guess we cannot get Met$ fans to understand...not even worth the argument.

Just remember, when a small market fan talks and whines about teams spending $$$$, just remember, bitter Met$ fans, you are now right there with teh Yank$ and Red $ox, no more posing as a small market fan. Those days are over. Period.

I have no idea what the hell youre talking about, considering its known and acknowledged with all Mets fans I know that we are up there in terms of payroll spending and we have NEVER considered the Mets "small market."

But all that aside, your payroll is still more than DOUBLE ours. So please spare the "youre up there with us, so shut up" tripe.

When people talk about teams overspending for big names, the Met$ are right there in the equation now. I love it. I hope they get more guy$. Yes the yankee$ payroll is double the Met$, but I never want to hear another Met$ fan act as if they are the little guys, which they seem to like to do when the moves they make dont work out.

I'll buy that the Mets are in a fortunate position with, heretofore, inferior management. But come on, Clements, the Yanks were sporting former all-stars at every postion except 2B last year -- where they instead had an excellent prospect break out. I'm not saying that that's not attributed in part to ingenuity, but they can afford basically anybody, including their young stars. That's not a luxury every team has.

Generally, when a team is spending freely like mine seems to be, it's a big risk and it will set the tone for the team for years to come when it's successful or not. The Yanks can misfire and just keep reloading. It's a great position to be in and any Yanks fan should be happy about it, while at the same time understanding that not every team has the same combination of history, location, media coverage and media power to rely on.

Very timely thought, considering the Mets have overspent for players since 1972 and the aquisition of a certain former Giant.

Of if you want to get into recent history, since they acquired a former Pirate outfielder in 1991.

But hey....if the Wagner signing gives you some kind of half-assed, twisted justifcation for your team's mistakes and free-spending ways, have at it.

The Mets are looking like a team that wants to compete. However, what about their starting pitchers? Pedro is outstanding but are there any others who will step up? If they do, this team will compete with the Braves in the NL East.

It would be nice to have another big starter, but most of the starters did very well last year. Glavine is a question mark due to his age, but he was solid last year so if he holds up they will be in good shape. Traschel was hurt almost all year and Seo pitched very well. That leaves Benson or Zambrono as the #5, which I can live with.

Although now I've read that Benson might be traded to the O's for Jorge Julio. I'll certainly miss the pics of Benson's wife in the Post.

Bull.  Their pitching is superior to just about everyone's in the AL (possible exceptions are Chicago and Anaheim).  Give them a big name DH and they probably win 100 - especially if they don't play in the East.

I guess that disproves the whole "acknowledge than any club besides the Yankees can be any good" thing. I prefer to not give credit to teams for adding free agents until they play a couple months of baseball - especially since YOUR team regularly adds players that don't perform to expectation. This would be easily understood if you had the ability to cognitively reason without your typical defensiveness.

Now whine some more about how Tom picks on you.

What's the point of this argument? I didn't want either of these players when the Yankees signed them and I've been the most critical person on this board about Alex Rodriguez and how amazingly overrated he is.

Your take on the "move" is pretty much the same one you've made over and over again about anything the Mets do. Maybe this time it'll actually work out so you won't look like Fireman Ed at the Jets game. Just maybe. What's it been, 15 years since your last division title? Note my concern.

Lets compare both careers when they are both concluded. IMO, this will shape up like the Seaver/Ford comparison when all is said and done.
