Saints game not finalized
Hungry NFL fans in San Antonio have gobbled up more than 50,000 tickets for three New Orleans Saints games in the Alamodome, including one against the Bills in early October. But it appears the tickets being printed may have the wrong date.

Customers who have stood in long lines snaking around the dome have been given tickets for the Bills vs. Saints game for Sunday, Oct. 2, the game's original date. However, the NFL is still mulling over playing the game on Monday, Oct. 3.

"Those decisions haven't been finalized," NFL vice president of public relations Greg Aiello said late Thursday afternoon. "We haven't announced anything."

The Saints, displaced by Hurricane Katrina, play their first "home'' game against the New York Giants at Giants Stadium on Monday as part of an NFL doubleheader. The NFL may choose yet to play the Bills vs. Saints on a Monday, too, in order for more exposure to encourage donations to hurricane relief.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the sensitive area? People move their plans and sometimes pay additional money to move to new game and NFL MOVES the date of the game? Ouch!

This will be absolute BS if the NFL screws us on this one. I was at the Alamodome box office in person yesterday. The Alamodome personnel, the Holdiay Inn and the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau all said the game was Sunday Oct 2.

WTF is going on???

I'm guessing your sources are more up-to-date than Leo's on this one; that quote was from Thursday...

I heard the "rumor" as well so I spoke to the Saints office directly. They told me the same thing that they had no knowledge of any plans to move the game to Monday. That was late Friday afternoon.

And it doesn't say October 2 or 3 any more on their website. It says Oct 2.

They told me in SA that they are still tossing around the actual start time because SA is considered a split fan base between the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys. Both those teams play on that day, Texans early and Cowboys late. I guess it's causing problems with TV coverage etc.

Honestly? That shouldn't matter - it's a Saints game, not a Texans or Cowboys game. I wouldn't have expected it to be televised in the SA market to begin with.... the actual "home market area" is what's left of the Gulf Coast. Also, this is a CBS broadcast, while the Dallas at Oakland game would be carried by FOX. Shouldn't be an issue. (And come to think of it, the Houston fans might welcome a week off from the Texans by then.. wink.gif )
