I checked costs of flights to San Antonio and Austin Texas and it appears that Austin is cheaper from a number of cities. You might want to lok at Austin as an alternate airport especially if you were planning on flying.

US Air flights from DCA:
Austin $274.00
San Antonio $363

But rental car cost and gasoline may make up the difference. I'd run the numbers first to be sure.
