Giants-Saints ticket deal reached

New Orleans Saints season ticket holders will have first choice of seats for the team's game rescheduled for Giants Stadium on Sept. 19.

Saints season ticket holders and others who had already bought tickets for the game originally scheduled for the storm-damaged Louisiana Superdome on Sept. 18 will be able to buy tickets for the rescheduled game beginning Thursday, the Giants said Tuesday.

Giants season ticket holders will be able to buy tickets beginning the same day, three hours later. The general public will be able to buy any remaining tickets beginning Sept. 13.

Also Tuesday, Saints owner Tom Benson, who drew criticism for his silence concerning where the team should play home games in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, prefers to call Baton Rouge home.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Benson echoed players and coaches who have said they prefer to play in Tiger Stadium on the LSU campus.

But I don't see how they can play in Baton Rouge on Oct 2. There are no hotel rooms!

Further I do not see how they will be able to play at LSU post Katrina. It takes a yoemans effort to run an NFL game with Security and Health issues. Maybe later in the season. I just wish someone would make up their minds. Airline tix, hotels, cars, etc. need to be re-worked. I'm very sorry for sounding so uncaring, but the game will be played and I still would like to go....I just hope the delay does not price me out of it.

QUOTE
The New Orleans Saints have been assured by the NFL that they will not play any of their divisional home contests in the stadiums of their NFC South rivals.

Beyond that, though, there are no certainties.

Jim Haslett has characterized his team as being "behind the eight ball" because of the league's decision to have his displaced club play its "home" opener at Giants Stadium on Sept. 19. And there remains a chance that New Orleans will play at least one more scheduled home game, most likely the Oct. 2 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, in its opponent's stadium.

From the San Antonio Express on 9/12:

NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, Saints owner Tom Benson and LSU chancellor Sean O'Keefe are expected to meet in Baton Rouge, La., today to discuss the hurricane relief strain on the city and determine how many, if any, Saints home games can be accommodated at LSU's Tiger Stadium.

San Antonio civic leaders already have reached an agreement in principle with the Saints to host half of the team's eight home games in the Alamodome, beginning with an Oct. 2 contest against the Buffalo Bills. Other dates earmarked for the Alamodome are Oct. 16 against Atlanta, Dec. 14 against Tampa Bay and Dec. 24 against Detroit.

An announcement locking in those dates is expected before midweek. Plans were put forward at the weekend meeting of city and county officials to coordinate preparations for the Oct. 2 game.

Just arrived home from Buffalo. I'm going to get on the phone right away and see if I can block some rooms. I'll post info tomorrow.
